Andy Roddick happy Iga Swiatek finally received pretty notable recognition

American tennis legend Andy Roddick says it is nice to see world No 1 Iga Swiatek getting some notable recognition. Swiatek, a three-time Grand Slam champion, made TIME’s top-100 most influential people in 2023 list. “One of the things I love seeing because a lot of people on the women’s side get covered a lot more for a lot less accomplishments than Iga Swiatek.

So I’m happy that she’s getting this crossover exposure because it is well deserved. She is uber professional, she is finding her voice outside of the arena so I love seeing this for Iga,” Roddick said on Tennis Channel.

For the past 14 months, Swiatek has been using her platform and position to raise awareness of the horror Ukrainian people have been living.

Reacting to the notable recognition, Swiatek admitted it was something she didn’t think could happen to her. “I have never thought that something like this will happen to me. Thank you @TIME for this incredible honor and recognition.

And thank you @MikaelaShiffrin for your words. It means a lot,” Swiatek tweeted. In a column for TIME, Mikaela Shiffrin – one of the greatest skiers ever – explained what makes Swiatek one of the most influential people in 2023.
When Iga Swiatek plays tennis, three things come to mind: beauty, power, and truth. Throughout her rise to the top of tennis—and the top of sport—Iga has shown vulnerability and courage. She strives relentlessly to improve her game.

She gives credit to those who have supported her, without discounting her own skills and work. She has advocated for mental health and supported Ukrainians in their fight to protect their home. As an athlete, and more importantly as a human, she embodies the kind of confidence that everyone should emulate—the confidence of action over mere talk,” Shiffrin wrote for TIME.
