Who can forget the historic French Open 2020 campaign of Iga Swiatek? If her title winning run wasn’t enough to startle tennis fans, she didn’t even lose a single set at the Grand Slam. The brilliant performance in Paris made the teenager a celebrity not only in Poland but throughout the world.
Recently, fans chose Swiatek as the second ‘Sportsmen of the year’ in Poland. It was definitely a big honor for her as she got the award at such a young age.
“Yesterday was a night full of emotions and excitement. I was chosen 2nd sportsmen of the year in Poland (right after Robert Lewandowski) by fans’ votes,” tweeted the Roland Garros 2020 winner.
The ‘Sportsmen of the year’ award undoubtedly went to the famous footballer Robert Lewandowski. Robert had quite a phenomenal season, winning the treble with his football club FC Bayern Munich. He also scored more than 50 goals in the 2019-20 season which were greater than the goals scored by even Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the tweet, Swiatek also thanked all her fans and supporters for helping and guiding her. She believed that they were the ones who gave her the inspiration to work harder.
“I want to thank you all for supporting me and giving me motivation to work harder,” added the 21-year-old Polish player.
