Having won it last year Swiatke hopes to finally defend a trophy this year after losing a couple of chances earlier in the year. She didn’t defend Indian Wells or Miami and now it’s finally time to do so. Facing Zheng was not easy because their last match was very tricky with Swiatek barely pulling through at last year’s Roland Garros.
The first set wasn’t quite competitive though as Swiatek came out on fire smashing Zheng 6-1. The Chinese player struggled immensely on her serve because she didn’t serve that well. Her serve is still a huge part of her game and likely won’t ever stop being and only 53 % certainly didn’t help her.
