Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce threw out the first pitch for the Cleveland Guardians in their home opener against the Seattle Mariners on Friday and it will go down as one of the worst ever.
Kelce, 33, unbuttoned his Guardians jersey as he prepared to throw the wild pitch, which bounced right before reaching the dirt and nearly struck pitcher Shane Bieber.
The NFL star rushed to apologize to Bieber and couldn’t help but laugh at his terrible pitch. Even the broadcast announcers joked prior to the pitch that a bad throw would mean ridicule for Travis at the hands of his older brother Jason Kelce, starting center for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Travis was accompanied by his mother Donna, who recently became a celebrity in her own right when her two sons faced off in the Super Bowl, a win for the youger Kelce.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes could have been a professional baseball pitcher, but he seemingly didn’t bother to give Kelce any pointers, before or after the pitch.
Patrick Mahomes laughs at Travis Kelce’s pitch
Mahomes, 27, took to Twitter to react to Kelce’s pitch, simply saying “ayy bruh” with a bunch of laughing and skull emojis. He also asked the Kansas City Royals to give his teammate another try at an opening pitch.
Kelce, who was a quarterback in high school, has previously been told by Mahomes that he wouldn’t have made it in the NFL if he had not switch positions to tight end.
A baseball career is obviously even less of a possibility for Kelce, who will likely react to his pitch during the next episode of the New Heights podcast he does with Jason.
Mahomes is currently mourning a death in his family amid other turmoil regarding his brother and an assault on a woman.
