Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, lives her life according to a long list of royal rules that she is expected to follow. These include bans on what mobile apps she can use, and what she can eat.
But while Meghan Markle said that these guidelines were a big reason for her leaving The Firm, Kate Middleton appears to be much more happy to go along with them, according to OK Magazine. The limitations on her diet are perhaps some of the surprising, and royal guidelines state that the family should avoid ‘risky’ foods in public.
Speaking to The Telegraph former palace chef Darren McGrady said shellfish is banned as it could give the royal food poisoning, and carbohydrate-heavy meals are rare, as the Queen is not fond of them. Darren also revealed that some basic household staples are off the menu for the evening meal, stating: “No potatoes, rice or pasta for dinner.”
Away from the dinner table, Kate and the rest of the Royals are expected not to go to bed before Her Majesty, a protocol which reportedly tripped up Princess Diana a number of times.Former private secretary to the Queen, Sir William Heseltine, said in his book ‘The Royals in Australia’: “Nobody felt it right to go to bed before the Queen did.”
“For Diana the long royal evenings were agony. She’d excuse herself and go to bed, which was thought to be rather bad form.”Lastly, technology is another luxury that Kate cannot indulge in too much.Kate has no Instagram account, as members of the royal family are banned from having personal social media accounts.Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter told Insider: “Royals would always rather have a personal interaction than have people clamouring for selfies.”
Members of the family are also not supposed to be seen with mobile phones in public, a piece of royal etiquette which Meghan often flouted while she was in the UK.
